Welcome to Year 2

We have had a such lovely start to Year 2 over the last week and I really hope the children are enjoying it as much as I am. It has been so lovely getting to know each of them.

The children have been brilliant at settling into new routines and organisation. We have spent lots of time getting to know each other and completing lots of different activities. It has been lovely to see how creative and hard working all the children are. We also enjoyed a lovely booknic on Thursday where we shared some of our favourite with each other. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic the children were about their favourite books.

Your child will receive an invitation to join our Year 2 Google classroom over the weekend and I would encourage you to join this as soon as possible as I will set the homework on here weekly on a Friday and have daily lessons set incase of anyone needing to self-isolate. If you have forgotten your child’s login details I do have them all stored so am happy to send a reminder to you.

You will shortly receive our Autumn term letter detailing all of the exciting things that we are going to be learning and I am looking forward to sharing some of our learning with you from next week.

A few quick things – our PE day is Friday, so as previously advised children should come to school in PE kit suitable for the weather on Friday and NOT school uniform. The children can wear leggings/joggers through the day with shorts underneath. They may also need a light waterproof jacket as we will still do PE outside in light rain. Please check the forecast for the day. Please also remember that football kits are no longer permitted to be worn on PE days.

We have some children across school with allergies to nuts and sesame seeds. Please be aware of this when packing lunches and healthy snacks.

All children have now been given their new reading books. I am aware children have been given reading books that they have previously read. This is intentional as we would like children to work on improving their fluency when reading and one of the best ways to do this is to read a book that is already familiar to them. I have not given out new reading records as I believe most children still have them at home. If your child has their reading record could I please ask that you send it in to school on Tuesday. If you no longer have your child’s reading record please let me know as I do have some new ones and I will give your child a new one.  A little reminder about reading records, the reading record booklets are a record of what is read at home rather than at school, although adults in school may comment in them from time to time we do keep a separate record of your child’s reading at school. Children’s books will be changed either on a Tuesday or Friday. Your child’s day will be noted in their reading record from next week.

Homework will be set weekly and will consist of a spelling activity, a page/pages from the CGP grammar booklet and daily reading. Occasionally, additional homework linked to our history, geography or science focus or additional phonics / reading may be set. This will be set on Google Classroom.

Mrs Clack has also asked me to pass on this short message about the email system.

“Over the summer our parent email system, InTouch, has been changed slightly and it seems a number of parents are now receiving them in their spam folders instead.
Please can parents can check their spam folders and “unspam” them, you should then start to receive emails again.”

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Savage.
