Spelling – Your child should have brought home their spelling journal (or a sheet) with the words for this week. If not our spellings can be found on google classroom. Spelling journals should be returned to school every Thursday ready for the next set of spellings.

Maths – Numbots. Everyone received a copy of their login details for Numbots with the Autumn term class letter yesterday.

Reading – Please try to listen to your child read daily. This really is the best way to improve their fluency.

CGP – booklets

Page 4 & 5 only – Verbs.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Savage

This term, homework will be released on Friday and is to be handed in no later than the following Thursday morning as it will be marked Thursday afternoon and handed back out on the Friday.

Spelling – Children will be coming home with their spelling journals today. I have talked through the expectations with the children. We would like children to complete at least 100 points worth of creative spelling activities each week (details of these can be found on the first two pages of their journal). We would also ask that children do not complete the same activities two weeks in a row.

We will be working on the spellings throughout the week in our spelling and handwriting lesson. Spelling journals will be given to the children on Friday with a copy of this weeks spellings in for the children to continue to practise over the weekend in preparation for our spelling test on Monday. The week’s spellings will also be released on Google Classroom every Monday.

Reading – All children will be issued with their new reading book/s on either Tuesday or Friday each week. Children may bring home a book they have previously read. This is deliberate, as I would like children to focus on their fluency and comprehension of the texts they are reading this term. It is really important to try to listen to your child read everyday.

Maths – We would like children to use Numbots regularly.

If you no longer have your child’s Numbots login I will be sending these out along with the Autumn term class letter next week.

Grammar – We now have in stock the CGP Grammar books for Year 2. These do need to be purchased from school for a small cost. I will set homework each week on Friday from this book and we will go through the work together on Thursday afternoons.

If you need any help accessing the homework or Google Classroom please email enquiries@stwilfridssheffield.co.uk

Thank you for your continued support.

Reading Days

I am sending home reading books today for those children whose reading day is Tuesday. Please do not worry about sending in the books I sent home Friday straight away these can be returned next Tuesday when their books will be changed again.

If your child has not been given new books today then their reading day is Friday and their books will be changed then. Please could you ensure that you return the books given last week on Friday.

If your child no longer has their reading record could you please let me know as soon as possible, so that I can issue them with a replacement. If you have a reading record from either Reception or Year 1 this can be reused until it is full.

If books are not returned we will be unable to issue new reading books until they are returned.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Savage.

Welcome to Year 2

We have had a such lovely start to Year 2 over the last week and I really hope the children are enjoying it as much as I am. It has been so lovely getting to know each of them.

The children have been brilliant at settling into new routines and organisation. We have spent lots of time getting to know each other and completing lots of different activities. It has been lovely to see how creative and hard working all the children are. We also enjoyed a lovely booknic on Thursday where we shared some of our favourite with each other. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic the children were about their favourite books.

Your child will receive an invitation to join our Year 2 Google classroom over the weekend and I would encourage you to join this as soon as possible as I will set the homework on here weekly on a Friday and have daily lessons set incase of anyone needing to self-isolate. If you have forgotten your child’s login details I do have them all stored so am happy to send a reminder to you.

You will shortly receive our Autumn term letter detailing all of the exciting things that we are going to be learning and I am looking forward to sharing some of our learning with you from next week.

A few quick things – our PE day is Friday, so as previously advised children should come to school in PE kit suitable for the weather on Friday and NOT school uniform. The children can wear leggings/joggers through the day with shorts underneath. They may also need a light waterproof jacket as we will still do PE outside in light rain. Please check the forecast for the day. Please also remember that football kits are no longer permitted to be worn on PE days.

We have some children across school with allergies to nuts and sesame seeds. Please be aware of this when packing lunches and healthy snacks.

All children have now been given their new reading books. I am aware children have been given reading books that they have previously read. This is intentional as we would like children to work on improving their fluency when reading and one of the best ways to do this is to read a book that is already familiar to them. I have not given out new reading records as I believe most children still have them at home. If your child has their reading record could I please ask that you send it in to school on Tuesday. If you no longer have your child’s reading record please let me know as I do have some new ones and I will give your child a new one.  A little reminder about reading records, the reading record booklets are a record of what is read at home rather than at school, although adults in school may comment in them from time to time we do keep a separate record of your child’s reading at school. Children’s books will be changed either on a Tuesday or Friday. Your child’s day will be noted in their reading record from next week.

Homework will be set weekly and will consist of a spelling activity, a page/pages from the CGP grammar booklet and daily reading. Occasionally, additional homework linked to our history, geography or science focus or additional phonics / reading may be set. This will be set on Google Classroom.

Mrs Clack has also asked me to pass on this short message about the email system.

“Over the summer our parent email system, InTouch, has been changed slightly and it seems a number of parents are now receiving them in their spam folders instead.
Please can parents can check their spam folders and “unspam” them, you should then start to receive emails again.”

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Savage.
