This week on Tuesday we spent a very pleasant morning going out to work on our 60th anniversary commemorative mosaic. We were the first to put pieces in and that can be a difficult job. Everyone enjoyed using the tools and the designs are taking shape very nicely.
We will not be setting any more yellow spelling book homework now as we are no longer running Read Write Inc groups and we will be back as full classes from now until we break up.
Please can the children return any library books and reading books that they have from Monday next week? We would like to collect all of these in and look at our stock, and also check what is out on loan from the school library. Have a good look around at home if you suspect there may be items unreturned. Thank – you.
Lots of fun, messy, creative enjoyment today in Y2 as we decorate our buildings and structures. We have learnt about 1950’s art and design to celebrate 60 years of our school and we have looked at the design of our school and the buildings in the paintings of our chosen artist El Gato Gomez. We have learnt about the ‘futuristic’ style and that the late 1950’s was a time when scientists were thinking about how to send people into space. Some of us made satellites and even a space chimp to travel in a rocket! We found out that the first chimp in space was born in 1956, the same year that our school was built!
Many of us made schools of the future and some made factories, cinemas, houses and offices. We learnt that lots of new buildings were made in the 1950’s in Britain because it was not long after World War 2 and they needed new houses and buildings in many towns and cities.
